Anne qualified with a degree in optometry (BSc hons) from Dublin Institute of Technology in 2005. After 2 years working in Ireland in community optometry, she moved to Australia where she worked for the next 8 years.
In Perth, Australia, Anne worked in the Lions Eye Institute which is a large private eye clinic. She worked initially as an ophthalmic assistant, then a clinical optometrist and finally as the manager of the Allied Ophthalmic Services. It was in the Lions Eye Institute that she received most of her clinical optometry training in addition to registering with various clinical trial bodies (Touchstone, EMMES) to perform BCVA’s for various clinical drug trials. She worked with 15 ophthalmologists of varying specialities (glaucoma, vitreoretinal, corneal, oculoplastic, uveitis).
In 2011 Anne successfully passed the OCANZ exams which allowed her to register as an Optometrist in Australia and New Zealand. She also completed ‘Effective People Management’ and ‘Senior Supervisor’ courses in 2013/14 with the Australia Institute of Management.
Since her return to Ireland in April 2016, Anne has worked as a clinical optometrist at the Institute of Eye Surgery, Waterford. Her duties include; taking patient history, VA, IOP (I-care and Goldman Tonometry), visual fields, refracting, contact lens trials, slit lamp examination, taking and interpreting various scans (Pentacam, OCT, FFA, Fundus photography, endothelial microscopy), biometry measurements and IOL selection in addition to advising and counselling patients.
Anne commenced working with Major Opticians in December’18 where she looks forward to incorporating her clinical knowledge & skills into her community optometry work.”
